The week in Disney History

Hey everyone....ever want to know a little Disney history. Well I am going to try to find something interesting and Disney related to report on once a week. Soooo lets see.

August 15, 1999 - The Disney Wonder sets sail on it's maiden voyage!

August 15, 2003 - Mission Space does a soft opening.

On August 16th, 1955 Dumbo the Flying Elephant opened in Fantasyland in Disney Land. Orginally planned to be open on July 17th, the fiberglass elephants were late in their arrival, halting the opening of the now famous and favorite ride!

On August 17, 1786 Davy Crockett is born. Great, now I have the song stuck in my head..."born on a mountain top in Tennessee...."

August 17, 2006, Meg Crofton is announced to be the new President of Walt Disney World. She is the fourth President of the famous resort and the first woman. :-) Yay Meg!

August 18, 1930 - An yet to be named Pluto appears in the animated short The Chain Gang. (It was released on September 5).

August 18, 1986 - Crockett's Tavern opens in Walt Disney World's Fort Wilderness. Part of Trail's End Restaurant, it is located at the northern end of the campgrounds.

August 19, 2006 - Disney MGM's (now Hollywood Studios) attraction Who Wants to be a Millionaire - Play It! closes. Toy Story Midway Mania will open in it's place.

August 20, 2007 - A new version of O Canada! is released in the Canada pavillion in Epcot's World Showcase.
